Laser Spectacles performed a custom laser show for the Aquapalooza VIP Event on July 9, 2010, at the Cypress club in The Reserve at Lake Travis, in Spicewood, TX. Aquapalooza is a fascinating event put on nationwide by Sea Ray Boats, encouraging people to attend the festival in their boats. Special docks will be brought in to accommodate the expected crowds. Go to Sea Ray for more info on the world’s largest boating event!
Here are a couple of pictures taken from the Cypress Club peninsula that we set up on – you can see Brad Paisley’s big stage in one of them. It’s a fascinating event – they expect about 30-40,000 people at the concert the next day, and every spectator must attend from the water, one assumes in a boat. However, we did hear about a scuba diver who swam in from over from a mile away!
But back to us –
This was the signature opening event for an Aquapalooza VIP crowd of about 500. The featured band, “Suede” from Austin, started up at 8:15 PM and took a break an hour later, just when it was beginning to be nice and dark. We quickly raised the screen for the laser show (thanks to Walter Olden and crew for setting up the trussing for the screen), and moved the RGB featured laser to the center of the dance floor. The show bagan!
And what a show it was – under the big clear tent, laser beams shooting out over the audience and into the big oak trees in the back, and all over the Cypress Club Pavilion. We started with a water sounds/lumia intro, featuring a song from “Aqua” by Edgar Froese, and then went into “Pirates of the Carribean”; this was a very intense beam show through the haze. Then we featured a module created for the tune “Water” by Brad Paisley, the signature song from his H2O tour. Finally, we finished with “I Gotta Feeling” by the Black Eyed Peas, as fireworks began to explode in the sky overhead. The band came back and took the stage, and the party kicked into high gear! I gotta say, this band Suede was an outstanding cover band, anything they played sounded better than the original, and this is difficult to achieve on a live stage.
An interesting and unexpected effect resulted from using a glossy clear tent over the stage and dance floor, to prepare for possible rain that was in the forecast. The laser graphics were reflected from these in a slightly distorted way, creating an array of six images floating above the dance floor. You can see this effect in the pictures of the laser show here.
